For years I was so bitter, burned out + suicidal
So greedy + so lazy, so far beyond entitled
I thought my life was harder than what others had endured
I held on to my sickness, so unwilling to be cured

At last you came along, designed to put me right in check
You pulled my spirit free from its self-created wreck
You held me in your heart although I pushed you to the edge
You taught me to hold on to life, to back up off the ledge

Man I'm blessed to be with you, 'cause you're patient + forgiving
Our hearts are beating true + clear, no anger or misgiving
Now I'm glad to be alive, at last I love the life I'm living
So this day I will surely strive to offer my thanksgiving

For years I blamed the world because I could not write a hit
So full of spite + bile that my own flaws I would forget
I thought this life was little more than envy hate + rage
Little did I know I'd wrought my own soul-killing cage

At last you called me out, you sent me swiftly to my place
With you my sins + follies I slowly gained the strength to face
You still saw the star inside me when I snuffed out all the light
Where others ran you cared enough to stick around + fight

I'm quite the little turkey, 'fraid of silly, scared to laugh
To you joy is no stranger, that's why you're the better half
Me, I suck at finding laughter, but I'll do the best I can
